How To Hide My IP Proxy Address

The most common method to hide your IP address is to use a proxy server in one form or another. It is really possible to hide the public IP address of a home computer or router... This method involves an Internet service called an anonymous proxy server.

Internet Explorer and Google Chrome

Step 1
Press the "Windows" and "R" keys simultaneously.
Step 2
Type "Inetcpl.cpl" in the Run box and press the "Enter" key. This launches an Internet Properties window.
Step 3
Click the "Connections" tab to display the connection-related settings.
Step 4
Click the "LAN settings" button near the bottom. This opens a new, smaller dialog window on your screen.
Step 5
Click in the box next to "Use a proxy server..." and type the proxy server's address in the Address bar. Type the proxy server's port number in the Port box. This information should be readily available on the source you have chosen for a proxy server.
Step 6
Click the "OK" button to close the LAN Settings dialog box.

Mozilla Firefox

Step 1
Press the "Windows" and "R" keys simultaneously. This opens a Run dialog.
Step 2
Type "Firefox--Preferences" in the Run box and press the "Enter" key. This loads a Firefox Preferences dialog window on your screen.
Step 3
Click the "Advanced" icon. This displays advanced settings in the center of the dialog.
Step 4
Click the "Network" tab and click the "Settings" button next to "Configure how Firefox connects to the Internet."
Step 5
Click "Manual proxy configuration." Look at the proxy information on the resource you have chose to use for a proxy. This resource should provide you with an address and port number to use.
Step 6
Type the proxy server's address in the HTTP Proxy field and type the port number in the Port field. Click in the check box next to "Use this proxy server for all protocols," then click the "OK" button to close the dialog.
